The position requires at least Bachelors Degree in a planning-related field. The position will be responsible for planning activities and routine planning functions. The salary is based upon education and experience with a salary range from $25,000 to $50,000 and the hiring range from $25,000 to $35,000. There is a competitive fringe package available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Answers citizens questions regarding lot division, zoning changes, conditional use permits and variances;
• Looks up zoning, floodplain and plat information for the public;
• Performs subdivision plat review and reviews conditional use permit and variance applications for completeness;
• Directs preparation of letters to adjoining property owners; prepares staff reports for variances, public notices and forms filed at the county clerk's office;
• Provides support to the senior planner mapping property divisions and zoning changes in GIS and prepares GIS analytical maps and data;
• Maintains E911 database and assigns addresses on subdivision plats, other planning documents, and to individuals seeking building permits;
• Maintains OMPC library, classifies and labels documents; updates library listing.

Minimum Training and Experience:

• A Bachelor's Degree in urban planning or related field;
• One year of urban planning experience;
• Excellent computer, communications, and customer service skills;
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Associate Director of Building/Electrical
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Management of the daily activities associated with construction permitting, inspections and plan review;
• Interpretation and enforcement of construction codes and Federal/State floodplain regulations;
• Meet with contractors, builders, homeowners both in office and on site to discuss construction projects;
• Perform site inspections as needed;
• Represent as the OMPC on various committees and/or boards;

Minimum Training and Experience:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or a related field and/or a minimum of five (5) years related work experience
• Current certification from the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a Level I inspector, with Level III Plan Reviewer certification achieved within six (6) months of hire;
• Knowledge and experience in zoning regulations, subdivision regulations, floodplain management, and building construction/codes;
• Excellent computer, communications, and customer service skills;
• Supervisory experience.

The City of Paducah is seeking a Director of Planning who can lead the City in strategic and neighborhood planning, downtown revitalization, project management, riverfront development, and overall community development. Together, with a staff of 10, the Director is responsible for strengthening the economic and aesthetic viability and physical function of the City, working with diverse neighborhoods, preserving architectural and historic attributes and improving and enhancing the quality of life of those who live and work in Paducah, as well as visitors who frequent and enjoy all that the City has to offer.

The Director of Planning is a key member of the City’s Management Team, reports to the City Manager, and will develop strong collaborative efforts with the internal department partners to facilitate the City’s Mission of being financially sustainable, provide first class services delivered in a cost effective manner and has quality infrastructure and facilities.

Ten years of progressive experience in Planning and Community Development required. AICP certification preferred.
