The Boone County Planning Commission is interested in hiring an Executive Director effective August 1, 2026. As a joint city/county planning commission, the agency serves the Boone County Fiscal Court and the Cities of Florence, Union and Walton. It consists of 15 appointed Board members, a professional Staff of 15 and a budget of $2.6 million and is responsible for providing planning, zoning and GIS services countywide.
Boone County, Kentucky is part of the Cincinnati MSA and a leader in population, housing and employment growth in the region and state. The County is 256 square miles in size and has an estimated population of 147,142. It is accessed by 3 interstates, 2 rail lines, an international Airport and 42 miles of the Ohio River. It is known for its diverse economy. The Executive Director manages the work and Staff of the agency. Qualifications includes a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field and at least 12 years of progressive work experience in land use planning, preferable in growth management as well as demonstrated work experience in zoning. Strong supervisory and budgeting knowledge and experience are required as well as possessing other skills. AICP certification is a requirement.
