The Hopkinsville-Christian County Planning Commission, dba Community and Development Services (CDS) is seeking qualified Planners to fill several vacancies. Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky is a community of approximately 32,000 residents in the City and over 78,000 residents in the County. Located in Western Kentucky, Christian County is the home of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky which is located on the Tennessee/Kentucky state line. Only a twenty five (25) minute drive to Lake Barkley and a little over an hour from Nashville, Tennessee, Hopkinsville offers a wide variety of opportunities for individuals wanting a career in Planning. Community and Development Services is a diverse organization responsible for Planning, Community Development, Code Enforcement, Downtown Revitalization, GIS, Stormwater Management, etc. Staffing levels range from 18-22. CDS has vacancies for the following positions:
Planner II. Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field with at least three (3) years' experience or a Master's Degree in Planning or related field with at least one (1) year of experience. Starting salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 with competitive fringe benefits. Planner I. Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field. Starting salary range is $30,000 to $40,000 with competitive fringe benefits. Boone County, Kentucky is part of the Cincinnati MSA. It is the leader in population, housing and employment growth in Northern Kentucky and the home of CVG Airport. The community has a diverse economic base of industrial, retail, medical, educational, office, tourism and recreation businesses. This position performs high-level land use planning and community development functions and oversees work on plans and studies. The Director of Community Development also acts as a technical advisor on development plan reviews of projects that greatly impact the community. Finally, the position includes performing data research and analytics for development trends and for infrastructure planning purposes.
Qualifications include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field with at least 10 years of progressive work experience in planning and/or community development fields. Detailed knowledge of land use planning, zoning principles and community development are a requirement for this position. Demonstrated technical, interpersonal, public speaking, organizational, computer (GIS), research, supervisory and written skills are also required.
