The Henderson City-County Planning Commission and GIS, which serves a one-county Planning area with three governmental entities and a total population of 46,250, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Executive Director of the Planning Commission.
This position requires responsible administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the programs and activities of the Planning Commission. It requires leadership in advising the Planning Commission on policy formulation and implementation. The Assistant Executive Director is also responsible for assisting in the administration of the Planning Commission staff’s policies and programs and the general management of the organization. Education & Experience. Preference will be given to those applicants that possess at a minimum: a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field with a minimum of three years of progressive experience in a Planning organization. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of ten years of experience in a Planning-related field is required. Two to three years of responsible supervisory and administrative experience is preferred, but not required. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is required within two years of initial employment. Planning and Development Services of Kenton County (PDS) is seeking a professional planner to join its Planning and Zoning Administration team. With jurisdiction in the heart of the Cincinnati metro region, PDS serves 65,000 residents that live, work, and play in a dynamic setting. Our Planning and Zoning Administration team conducts long-grange planning projects including updates to an award-winning online digital comprehensive plan as well as small area studies, land use plans, and redevelopment plans for our 20 local jurisdictions. It also provides staff support to the Kenton County Planning Commission in its review of zoning text and map amendments and development plans. The selected candidate will pursue long-range planning and current-planning activities, with the ability for the candidate to specialize in their area of interest depending upon qualifications. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, outgoing, and a team player with both internal and external groups. Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills are essential. Commitments to public involvement and citizen engagement are a central focus of this role. Previous experience with project management and GIS analyses are a plus. PDS will consider candidates with one to three years of professional experience in planning or a related field. The starting position (associate or principal planner) as well as starting salary will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning or landscape architecture is desired. Candidates with related degrees plus professional experience in planning and/or zoning administration may be considered.
