The Senior Planner is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all functions related to Planning, Engineering (new construction) and GIS. This position reports directly to the Planning Director and serves as the Commission’s liaison with the City Council, County Commission and various other local and regional boards. This position also performs a variety of current and long range planning activities, including the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. The qualified applicant should understand and be able to utilize GIS on a regular basis with the assistance of the GIS Department.
The applicant should have knowledge of both urban and rural land use planning principles and practices, research and statistical data collection, and familiarity with various fields in the planning profession such as transportation, housing, economic development, cultural and historic preservation, environmental studies, and public policy and/or law. Candidate must have good writing and verbal communication skills, and be capable of presenting to boards, governing bodies, and attend public meetings in the evening as needed. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with engineers, surveyors, developers, property owners, and the general public. Candidate should also be familiar with variances, conditional uses, and appeals process through a Board of Adjustment. About the Position. As a Senior Planner within our firm, you will be responsible for supporting a multitude of high-profile projects through your solid technical planning experience and expertise.
