Description Supervises community planning or land development regulations, activities and projects. Analyzes land use cases, and presents findings of planning and zoning projects at public meetings and hearings. Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel Examples of Duties Evaluates policies and procedures and develops and implements modifications. Prioritizes and assigns zoning cases or community planning projects, reviews and edits staff reports, monitors work flow for effectiveness and efficiency, and recommends modifications, improvements and solutions to problems. Presents findings on community planning, zoning, subdivision and land development projects at public hearings and meetings of the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment and related committees. Coordinates community planning and zoning projects with governmental agencies, utility company representatives, engineers, and transportation agencies. Inspects sites and analyzes proposed developments and urban planning projects to determine impact on the community and compliance with the Comprehensive Plan. Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning zoning, community planning, and implementation of laws, regulations, ordinances, principles, procedures and activities. Represents the department to governmental agencies, developers, community groups and the media to provide information on community planning or zoning projects and procedures. Performs related work. There are two vacancies within the Division of Planning; one in Long Range Planning and one in Transportation Planning which also acts as the federally mandated MPO for Central Kentucky. The purpose of these positions is to perform professional, technical, and analytical planning in regards to urban and regional planning activities within the specified area to help develop the community.

Under general supervision, the Planning Technician performs a variety of paraprofessional planning and zoning tasks at the front counter, within the office, and in the field as required. General duties include application intake and review of a wide variety of land use and development proposals, file research and maintenance/scanning, map reading, zoning and subdivision ordinance research and packet preparation for the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment; prepares technical reports; creates and maintains databases; assists the Planning Director, Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer as needed; and performs other duties as required. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred.

Qualifications A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred, in Urban or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering or related field.
