Senior Planner/Planner I/Planning Tech, Owensboro/Daviess County

Owensboro/Daviess County Kentucky, home of Bluegrass and BBQ, is the regional cultural, culinary, and transportation hub for Western Kentucky. Over the past decade our community has experienced a downtown revitalization. Through public/private partnerships our downtown has grown with construction of a new state of the art convention center, two hotels (with a third in the planning stage), and multiple mixed use developments. We have an exciting opportunity to expand our planning staff and are looking for one or two creative, problem solving individuals to join our team.

Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Planning, the position(s) will perform a wide range of planning activities including, but not limited to:

• Long Range Planning including preparation of the Comprehensive Plan;
• Completing small-area neighborhood or special area studies;
• Participating in transportation planning activities with the MPO for coordination with land use planning;
• Current Planning activities including plat and development plan review and rezoning, conditional use permit and variance analysis and staff report preparation;
• Meeting with developers, builders, and property owners to discuss potential lot divisions, development proposals and re-zonings;
• Code enforcement and zoning administration;
• Utilization and maintenance of GIS information; 
• Maintaining the E911 database and assigning addresses;
• Representing the OMPC on various local and regional committees and/or boards.

Desired Qualifications
Senior Planner:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or related field
• Five years of urban planning experience
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (current or within two years of employment)
• Excellent computer, communications, and customer service skills

Planner I:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or related field
• One to two years of urban planning experience
• Excellent computer, communications, and customer service skills

Planning Tech:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or related field
• Excellent computer, communications, and customer service skills
  
  

Pay and Benefits.  Pay and benefits are very competitive! Pay will vary depending on position(s) filled and applicant qualifications. Our organization participates in the State of Kentucky County Employee Retirement System (CERS) and benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, and paid health insurance premium.   Typical hours of work are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday but all positions will require some  evening meeting attendance and other times as needed.
