The City of Paducah seeking an innovative, collaborative, and experienced planning and development professional.

We are seeking a visionary thinker who can transform that vision into programs, policies, and practices that improve quality of life and the overall appeal of Paducah as a place to live, work, and play.

Paducah is located in McCracken County, on the banks of the Ohio River. It is home to the nationally-recognized Lower Arts District, and it also boasts one of the most successful neighborhood redevelopment efforts in the nation with the Fountain Avenue Neighborhood. Paducah is a center for culture and the arts, and was recently designated by UNESCO as the world’s seventh City of Crafts and Folk Art.

The City has historically partnered and taken lead roles in neighborhood redevelopment & historic downtown revitalization. With a diverse population of 25,000 the city boasts 24 parks and recreation areas, a variety of adult and youth sports programs, a hiking and biking trail, a newly-developing Health Park, and is in close proximity to Shawnee National Forest, Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake.

The City of Paducah is seeking a Director of Planning who can lead the City in strategic and neighborhood planning, downtown revitalization, project management, riverfront development, and overall community development. Together, with a staff of 10, the Director is responsible for strengthening the economic and aesthetic viability and physical function of the City, working with diverse neighborhoods, preserving architectural and historic attributes and improving and enhancing the quality of life of those who live and work in Paducah, as well as visitors who frequent and enjoy all that the City has to offer.

The Director of Planning is a key member of the City’s Management Team, reports to the City Manager, and will develop strong collaborative efforts with the internal department partners to facilitate the City’s Mission of being financially sustainable, provide first class services delivered in a cost effective manner and has quality infrastructure and facilities.

The City engages citizens, exercises community leadership on local public service issues and is recognized as a regional leader.

Ten years of progressive experience in Planning and Community Development required. AICP certification preferred.
