Planning Administrator - Glasgow-Barren County

The Joint City-County Planning Commission of Barren County is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the newly created position of Planning Administrator.  Barren County is a vibrant community of 41,000 people and is located in South Central Kentucky.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The Planning Administrator will provide staff support services to the Planning Commission and assist the Director in managing day-to-day operations.  This position is an ideal opportunity for experiencing all aspects of planning.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Duties will include, but not be limited to: analysis of applications and preparation and presentation of staff reports for zoning changes, subdivision plats, conditional use permits, variances, and other requests considered by the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment; answering questions of citizens and professionals regarding zoning and subdivision regulations; research for and preparation of ordinance amendments; preparation of studies and reports for Comprehensive Plan updates; and other duties as assigned by the Planning Director.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience); and, ability to work as a team player and to juggle multiple projects and assignments.  Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Professional software and the ability to use GIS software such as AutoCad Map, ESRI ArcView and ArcInfo are preferred.  This individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to work well with the public and other city and county agencies and departments.

SALARY INFORMATION:  $25,000 to $27,500 (depending on education and experience).  Excellent benefits package, including Kentucky Retirement System.
