Urban Planner Multi-modal Transportation - Louisville Metro

Louisville's Office of Advanced Planning is seeking an experienced Urban Planner with experience in multi-modal transportation who can apply critical thinking and creative problem-solving to:

• Develop and implement sustainable, multi-modal transportation strategies at the local, regional, or national levels in collaboration with other professionals and agencies.
• Manage multiple projects at one time to implement the goals of Louisville Metro Government's Multi-Modal Transportation Plan (Move Louisville), including complex planning studies, corridor plans, and implementation of transportation projects, including the supervision of outside consultants.
• Engage the community to gather input and feedback on projects and planning studies in order to build consensus and assure plan/project implementation. This includes attending public meetings and workshops outside of normal business hours.
• Coordinate with government agencies and organizations to assure successful project implementation and coordination with other community planning documents and goals.
• Develop project budgets and coordinate with department heads to assure adequate funding for projects.
• Analyze and visualize data including land use, transportation and socio-economic data, by choosing the data that best tell the story in a way that's easy to understand with multiple data analysis tools, such as Microsoft Excel, Stata, SPSS, ESRI ArcGIS or R.
• Assist with securing services, grants, loans and other forms of available funding from sponsoring agencies.
• Research, analyze and resolve complex transportation design issues in collaboration with engineers, architects and designers.
• Attend and hold meetings with members of the public, partnering agencies, organizations or appointed and elected officials

Competencies

Additional Qualifications

• Master's degree (or higher) required. Degree focus in Transportation Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field is required.
• At least 3 years of previous experience in transportation, urban planning or project management is required.
• Work experience in a customer service field is a plus.
• Web and computer skills should include social media tools, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and experience with ESRI GIS Suite.

Compensation

• Minimum salary $50,000 annually, including full benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
